Eat the apple
This is not a black friday email
Hello. The sun came out today.
Cycles of the Eye is out in the world
Cycles of the Eye is a solo, tarot-based journaling game based on the Citizen Sleeper video game. It was made by me and Citizen Sleeper’s creator, Gareth Damian Martin, published by Lost in Cult, and is finally arriving at people’s doorsteps about now.
If you’re interested in the process of making this game (and seeing some more pictures), I wrote a blog post.
This was a big project and it’s great to finally see it out in the world.
Dragonmeet is here again
I’m back at Dragonmeet convention in London this Saturday (30th Nov) selling my usual wares. You can find me in the most obscure position on the upper floor:
I’ve got a limited number of Cycles of the Eye (plus tarot cards) to sell.
Plus, on a whim this week I made this stupidly lo-fi haiku dungeon with the help of my local library’s photocopier. Only 4 copies of this will ever exist in this form (the library accidentally kept one of my original sheets (IT WAS MEANT TO BE)).
Eat the apple
I keep meaning to put together another newsletter of creative advice. In the meantime, here’s something I’ve been musing on.
If you’re hit with frustrations with a creative project or have arrived at a roadblock, go and eat an apple*. And I mean, just eat an apple, nothing else. Not checking your phone or looking in the fridge. Outside is preferable though not mandatory. Take your time.
What a marvel it is to be able to stop and eat such a thing. It’s strangely freeing. The period it takes to eat an apple is exactly enough time for a single meander in your thought process. And I can’t explain it, but something about working your jaw helps turn the brain’s hamster wheel. It’s absolutely not going to solve all of your problems, but it may just point you in the direction to start solving something. Or spring out a completely new seed of an idea.
Anyway, I really love apples.
*replace with appropriate handheld fruit
Social media is dead, long live social media
I’m on Bluesky these days. Go follow me there. If you need an incentive, I put a picture of my new puppy there.
I still have a Twitter account, but I’m only checking it infrequently / posting when I’m really desperate to get attention on something.
